Becoming a Volunteer!

A good deal of the work done in and for Rainbow Support Services is done with the help of the many volunteers who give up hours at a time in order to participate in the growth of the LGBTQ community.

Volunteers exist at every level of Rainbow Support Services, from the Drop - in Rainbow Coffee Dock, to the Board of Management.

At present there are 23 fully trained volunteers within the organisation, with only the Co - Ordinator and Administrator as  paid staff.

To provide its existing level of Services, RSS, required about 3,000 person - hours annually from its dedicated core of volunteers.

The Functioning of  the helplines, the various support groups, fundraising and the operation of the Rainbow Coffee Dock, has always been done with volunteer work.

Once trained, and active, volunteers tend to remain with the project for a number of years (many are in excess of 6 yrs).

Annually new volunteers are put though the training program which helps to free existing volunteers for new duties, allows the expansion of services and brings new energies and outlooks to the project.

Rainbow Support Services are always looking for more volunteers, if you would like to become one of our volunteers, contact Vanessa or Janet at:

Volunteers needed for Support Line!

As always with organisations such as ours, that are charity run, and based on the good will and time of people in the community to support it, we find ourselves needing more volunteers.

This is not a position to be taken lightly, and no one is allowed on or near a switchboard until they are given full training and at least 6 weeks listening in time.

With this particular part of the job, it requires a commitment of 2 hours on a Tuesday night. We work by rota, and no one will ever know you are part of the switchboard.

If you are interested in helping out in this area, contact Vanessa @ 061 468611 and she'll inform you of what is needed and when the training for this will begin.
